History of the String Quartet
Due to it's versatility and balanced sound, it is no wonder that the
string quartet has become the most popular grouping in chamber music.
The string quartet actually first came about through an eighteen year
old boy, none other than Joseph
Haydn. Not only did he pioneer the form, but he wrote 66 full works
for string quartet. The ensemble seems to have come about by accident:
the Baron Carl von Joseph Edler von Fürnberg demanded of Haydn to hear
some music, but the only musicians available to the young composer were
2 violinists, a viola player, and a cellist. His first composition for
this chamber music ensemble was so well received that Haydn wrote
extensively for genre, as did almost every other major camposer to come
after him.
Nowadays, no matter what or where, a string quartet adds a memorable
touch of class. With our smart presentation, many comment on the visual
appeal of a string quartet, before they even hear a note!! Most music
lovers will accept nothing less for their big day, having a string
quartet play their favourite song during the wedding ceremony or at the wine
reception. Any function, whether it be a conference or a shop opening,
benefits from the sound of a string quartet during the lull in
conversation. |
